I grew up on on Galiwin’ku. My father Bangaliwuy was a respected bathi (sacred basket) maker and painter. He died when I was a teenager. While I don’t know much about my fathers sacred design and dilly bags, I still follow his paintings, in my own way. I see it as a kind of renewal, a way of making connections with the man who died when I was a girl. But its more than that, its about connecting with my own country, stories and family.
