  • Nyapalingu is a spirit creator ancestor that is sung in the Yirritja songlines around Blue Mud Bay in East Arnhemland. The Dhalwangu, Mangalili and Madarrpa clans all sing this spirit. The song tells the story of the Nyapalingu moving from Retja (Rain forest) to the beach, hunting and collecting food. The song is a slow beat as the walk across the land. They sit under the whistling tree by the beach. crying as they see the Wangupini (wet season clouds) approach. Finally they reach the Yingapungapu (Morturay ground) and cry for the Yambirrku (Blue tusk fish) and Gunyan (Ghost crab).
